Banjo has been in COVID-19 lockdown for months, will it ever end?

Lockdown and isolation expressed through mime artistry.
Written, directed and performed by Rod Lara, ‘Rise’ is a short silent comedy film that explores one man’s frustration under a COVID-19 lockdown. Based on the stage show ‘Last Mime Standing’, and a continuation of the short films ‘Isolation’ and ‘Lockdown’, Rod Lara resumes his role as Banjo – through mime artistry. ‘Rise’ is packed full of expressive humor and is entirely filmed without dialogue. The short is also filmed in one tiny location throughout.

The 6-minute film opens with Banjo confined to a small attic room. His isolation, loneliness and creativity are challenged. The comedy follows Banjo’s efforts to keep himself and his streaming viewers entertained. Despite electrical failures and room restraints – which limit his moral and general happiness, Banjo rises above with defiance.

Rise Short Film
Rod Lara’s creative spirit is on top-form in ‘Rise’ – his performance is highly entertaining from start to finish. Despite a low production value, the film shines bright through performance alone and will certainly keep viewers engaged. The short concludes with Banjo rising out of his miserable confinement. The premise of rise will relate to many around the world who have experienced the restraints of lockdown and loneliness. Lara is a fine performer who deserves high praise for his craft.
