Interview with Ebba Jahn

Director/Producer of

Ebba Jahn

What was the inspiration behind making this short film?

The poem my son Dwayne has written to become a poetry video was the inspiration behind this short film. The use of video images from space with it was his suggestion. Since I was fascinated by the recent landing of cameras on Mars we had something to work with.

Was there any particular challenges you had to go through to make the short film happen?

The challenge was finding material from the recent landing on Mars which was also to be available for artistic use.

How has the short film been received?

The first one who saw the film was the musician Paul Hubweber who now had to receive the final cut of the film well enough to pull some of his music from his archive for it, which so far has always been a delightful match with my short films – and he did it again. The film has also been submitted to a few small film festivals now.

Do you have any other projects in the pipeline?

I produced ‘Primordial Enchantments’. This is Dwayne Jahn’s first video poem, which he constructed from six ideas for poems he had written over the last 20 years. Also, I’m finishing the second experimental short film I made with a music group in the UK – ‘Time for Video – Oxford Improvisers’.

What advice would you give to anyone wanting to make their first short film?

Learn how to analyze films properly; watch films you are touched by and study how they are made on all levels; find your own imagination; follow your intuitions; never finance it with your credit card.
