What was the inspiration behind making this short film?

My inspiration behind creating this short film was simply love.. I am an advocate of love and truly believe Love (God) can change the world. Being a spiritual person, I have seen how religious leaders have ostracized individuals who’s lifestyle doesn’t agree with the regulations of Christianity. In my own personal ignorance, I was a part of that toxic behavior, many years ago. I watched how we (The Church) silently added conditions to “God’s love,” when it involved minorities and members of the LGBTQ+ community. Seeing this, shattered my heart. When I began to educate myself and seek the true heart of God, I realized my errors and vowed to fix me. I was adamant about finding an avenue to share my thoughts and passions. So, one day, in 2019, I was cooking and the storyline for ‘Timothy’ came to me.

Was there any particular challenges you had to go through to make the short film happen?

There were a few but mainly COVID and experiencing a snowstorm, the week of filming. Two of our team members were scheduled to fly in from Colorado and the airport shut down the day before. So, we were unsure sure if we would be able to film until the day before we were scheduled to film. Talk about crazy timing. The other challenge was not knowing how people would react to the controversial elements of the film. People, especially Church-goers, see projects, that make the pastor or leader of the church the antagonist, as blasphemous. Knowing this, I was apprehensive about releasing the film.

How has the short film been received?

Overall, ‘Timothy’ has received positive feedback. The majority of the viewers are asking for more, possibly a sequel.

Do you have any other projects in the pipeline?

Absolutely! One of my full length film scripts was accepted for production; we will begin filming in June. I am writing a children’s sci-fi novel series. The first book is scheduled to release in July. My goal is to turn it into an animated series. There are a few more projects but those are my main focus right now.

What advice would you give to anyone wanting to make their first short film?

Do it! Brainstorm properly to formulate your plan. Then, build your character description, this serves as a map to building your script. Next, build the first draft of your script. Let others read it and offer gentle criticism. Use their evaluation to build your final draft. Build your cast and REHEARSE!!!! Create a culture of excellence with your cast members. Don’t let anyone disrespect your craft because they are comfortable with mediocrity. Lastly, ensure that your film and audio quality are good. AND HAVE FUN!!!
